Diabetes

Alternative medicine has been used for a long time in an attempt to control diabetes. There are no studies that confirm their success. Many alternative medicines and treatments are used in addition to the normal western medicine. The fact that diabetes is a disease, which is caused by the absence of a hormone produced by the pancreas, does not allow alternative medicine too many choices except the application of said hormone.

Insulin preparations used for many years are of natural origin. Before man could create artificial insulin, which was not long ago, animal insulin was injected to diabetic patients. In fat many of them still prefer this over the artificial product. Foods with high fiber content help to reduce glucose levels in the blood. Garlic, ginseng and others have been proposed and tested but there is no real medical evidence that they can substitute proper medication.

Alternative medicine can be an excellent aid to certain diabetic complications like obesity. A diet rich in fiber and low on carbohydrates is ideal. There are many alternative medicine methods which are excellent for weight loss, and high blood pressure and other symptoms produced by diabetes. There are herbs that fortify and cleanse the liver and kidneys; others contain vitamins necessary for the eyes, for the heart and skin.

There are also alternative medical treatments that help; acupuncture which reduces hunger is an example of this. Ginseng and other roots will provide you with energy and stamina. The lack of magnesium is related to the difficulty in the body to process insulin. Whichever of these or any other alternative medicine a patient is exploring or investigating to control his or her diabetes, he or she must check with their doctor before leaving their regular medication and starting the new treatment.

In the case of patients with Type 1 diabetes, alternative medicine treatment is impossible. Type 1 patients do not produce insulin in their body to process the glucose in the blood stream. Insulin is absolutely necessary for this process, it does not exist in plants or roots , only in animals which produce their energy in the same manner we do. These animals are mammals, insulin used today comes from other mammals, and it has been used for as long time. There have never been any tests or experiments concerning insects or reptiles or any other in search of insulin in their systems that can be used in humans.

Many Type 2 diabetics do not need medication, they require diets and weight control, exercise and medical control. These are the patients that can benefit from alternative medicine treatments for weight loss, exercise methods and disciplines. Alternative medicine will definitely help both types of diabetics with roots and herbs that stimulate and improve liver and kidney function. Medication that helps with high blood pressure and matters like these but there is no real proven alternative medicine specifically designed and used for the control of diabetes itself.

Diabetic medication should not be suspended or decreased while under alternative medication treatment. Any treatment or diet plan introduced to the patient must also be approved by his attending physician before it is implemented.
