Hiccups can be a pain and it’s hard to get them to stop. The diaphragm, which is located in the chest, is responsible for annoying hiccups. The diaphragm is a muscle that is dome shaped and it pulls and pushes air from the lungs while people inhale and exhale. When the diaphragm is irritated then hiccups could result. Most of the time hiccups last a few minutes or hours, but they can actually last for a few days or even a few weeks. In this case, there could be another medical problem at fault.

There are many remedies for hiccups. They include gargling with water, holding your breath, sipping ice water fast, closing your eyes and pressing your eyeballs, eating a teaspoon of sugar, drinking soda water quickly, eating peanut butter, and even placing an ice bag on the diaphragm.
Avoid hot and spicy food
The hiccups are not really affected by diet so there is not a specific diet recommended. However, avoiding hot and spicy food can help because these foods can irritate the oesophageal lining.

Do not overeat so as not to overload your digestive system. Also, if the hiccups last for 24 hours or more then you may want to visit the doctor.
