Stress is a reaction to different situations that occur in daily life or that are incidental. They come in many forms and shapes but everybody goes through them one way or another. Stress is a psychological condition that affects every person to a different degree. Reactions to stress vary from a little insignificant worry to a complete nervous breakdown. Again this depends on the person and the situation too.
Many times people’s reactions to small everyday stress situations are extremely exaggerated and can lead them to severe health problems and in extreme cases suicide. Stress can be exhausting or it can be a normal part of life. It can also be positive and make the person thrive and grow both emotionally and spiritually or it can be negative and devastate a person’s life and body.
There is no special or specific way to treat stress; it is a part of daily life for everyone. It is not a disease or sickness; it is a state of mind. Dealing with stress is a matter of attitude and being positive about life. Keeping a positive and down to earth attitude and state of mind are fundamental to avoid extreme conditions and consequences produced by over worked and stressed minds.
Living orderly lives is also necessary to combat and relieve stress. When a person has a situation or problem at work, it must remain at work and not be brought home with them. In the same manner home problems must be left at home. A person must also have some kind of distraction, some way to let his mind wander and forget all the problems and conflicts he is living with.
There is no real treatment for stress but there are stress management techniques. These are things people do to reduce the stress levels and divert their attention to other more agreeable things. Getting a hobby is one of these, a hobby separates the mind and concentration from the problem at hand and allows it to relax and enjoy something. The movies, opera, theater, sports these are all examples of activities people can use to reduce their stress levels. Physical activity, exercise, jogging, lifting weights, swimming, all of these are also excellent ways to release the steam and pressure build up.
Modern psychologist also recommends oriental techniques, like meditation, yoga, bonsai and other forms of entertainment that relax the body and mind. The purpose of stress management techniques is to liberate the mind from the problem that is holding it, even if only for a couple of hours. This rest and distraction allows the adrenaline levels to descend and gives the person the possibility to return to the problem with a fresh perspective and a new focus point. Who knows he may even find a solution which was there all the time.
Stress management is the only things that will help control the way people react to their problems. There are no medications or magical solutions for it. Stress is a part of our lives, it has always been, farmers needing water, hunters searching for food, and many other examples. The problem with stress in modern life is that life is complicated; people have to deal with many situations at the same time, many problems at the same time that probably did not exist before or were simpler then. Life in the present is fast, there is no rest, after work people watch TV, go out for dinner, and they can have an extension of their office at home through their computers so they never stop working. There is no rest, when they finally go to bed, cars honk their horns, and ambulances drive by with their sirens on. There is no peace and quiet, no real rest. The problems never stop, they just pile up one on top of the other, patience and peace of mind are necessary to remain sane and happy.
