Stress is a psychological affection; it is a way of reacting to external and internal influences. Usually these are negative and affect our ways of life and or our surroundings or the people we love and care for. Our economic situation, our health, and many other circumstances affect our state of mind and our peace of mind.
Headaches, muscle tension, ulcers, heartburn, fatigue, these are all results of excessive stress. But they themselves are affections that have their own treatments. There are many consequences which a person can suffer due to stress but stress itself is not a sickness. Stress is a reaction people have to problems, and events in their lives. There are no medicines or treatments for life’s problems. Stress is just a person’s reaction to everyday events in life.
In cases where stress has caused physical problems and consequences like those mentioned above, ulcers and headaches medicine could be taken for those affections. But there are no medicines for sudden changes of mood or behavior, for the desire to be alone lying in bed or locked up in a room. Acute stress can and will cause depression and all the consequences that come with it but taking medication for the depression will not relieve the stress problem and eventually it will not help with the depression either.
The best medication for stress is to be positive about the problems we encounter in life, to look for solutions and not drown in them. The best medicine is a change of attitude and the way a person looks at life and at himself. Every problem has a solution some solutions will take longer than others but everything can be solved.
Sharing problems and stressful situations with a friend or someone the person trusts will also be helpful. It will help the person to get another point of view on the problem; it will help to look at it from another perspective. Bringing problems into the open usually allows the person a sense of relief because he knows that someone else is helping him and sharing the burden.
Distraction and disconnecting from the issue always helps to relieve the tension, the stress. Thinking about something else, enjoying a walk in the park, watching a movie or taking a long drive on a country road. The best medication is to separate the persons mind from the cause of the stress, allow him breathing room so his mind can wander and get some rest, and relaxation.
Stress management techniques are great medicine, they relieve muscular tension, and they help the person to concentrate on more agreeable matters and things like a hobby or a book. With the decrease in adrenaline flowing through his body it will also relax. Blood pressure will decrease and the headaches will go away. The body will be able to rest and recuperate from the tension it has been suffering.
In general medication is not recommended because nothing can cure stress. If the person takes sleeping pills so he can get some rest, this may become a habit which he will have problems with. Another consequence of stress is depression, medication exists for this ailment too, but again this medication is addictive too. Every consequence of stress has a particular medication for it but a person cannot spend his life taking medication for all the ailments caused by his worrying too much over everything. The best medication is to face life with a positive, peaceful attitude, to solve the problems that can be solve immediately, those that can’t be solved the person must adapt too. Share problems, sadness and happiness too with his or her loved ones. Sharing and talking about worries and problems has always been an excellent way to relive accumulated pressure. Two heads think better than one and who knows maybe the second head can come up with the sought out solution to the pending problem.
