Sunburn is caused by overexposure to ultra violet rays. These may occur from the sun, tanning beds, and/or welding arcs. Skin cancer may result from over exposure and sunburn should not be taken lightly. Fair skinned people are at a higher risk for sunburn than darker complected people.
Skin may become red and tender
Sunburn symptoms occur several hours after being in the sun. The skin gradually becomes red and tender and many times will be warm. After several hours or even days the skin may begin to blister and then the skin will begin to peel. Other symptoms include chill, fever, nausea, vomiting, flu, rash, and skin loss.
Sunburn Symptoms, Causes
Ultraviolet rays
The skin is protected by melanin, which protects from harmful UV rays. However, when the exposure to ultra violet rays is more than the melanin can protect against then the skin will burn. The skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays when swimming, working outdoors, skiing, hiking, or doing other outdoor activities. As a result, sunburn is more likely. The skin is more likely to burn if hormonal medicines are taken, antibacterial agents in soap, and the like.
Remedies for burnt skin
A remedy for burned skin is to apply vinegar or aloe Vera. This helps with the pain and inflammation. Products with petroleum jelly, lidocaine, and benzocaine should be avoided. Mustard oil rubbed on the skin and allowed to dry may take some of the heat out of the skin. Fresh cucumber slices that are cold can be placed on the sunburn for additional relief. When taking a bath add baking powder to the water to soothe the skin. Lavender and peppermint oils also offer relief. Lavender and/or chamomile oil placed in the bath can also take the sting out of the burn. Add potato slices to the burn and the starch will soothe the burn.

Take vitamin E and vitamin C diet
Sunburn may be cured with vitamins C and E, which are both antioxidants. That means you should eat plenty of these vitamins and other good foods like high protein eggs meat, chicken, fish, and the like. It’s also important to eat fruits because they have many minerals and vitamins. Drink lots of fluid to replace lost fluids and keep the body hydrated.
SPF 30 or above sunglasses should be used
It is important to wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher when outdoors as well as sunglasses.
